Kristen Palm lived in the MN Northwoods surrounded by trees for over twenty years. She draws her inspiration from the hiking, biking, skiing and paddling adventures she has experienced along the MN Northshore as well as many Western US parks. Her paintings cannot help but reflect the joy she experiences in the natural world. She loves to gaze into the limitless windows of space between the tree branches and let her creativity take flight.

Kristen's art career began with a degree in Art History, was influenced by employment in computer graphics, enhanced by teaching elementary students, and finally polished by a UM degree in Studio Art. She is currently enjoying working independently in her St Paul studio.

Palm sees a dynamic interaction between solid forms and the spaces surrounding them. An interconnectedness and a skirmish for significance and ultimately, the viewer’s attention. By employing bright colors of equal value, the contrasting spaces create a push pull effect propelling the work into abstraction. At this point, the viewer’s memory can be sparked to recall their own personal connectedness with the natural world. Kristen's hope is that her paintings evoke joy and concern for this sphere we inhabit.

All paintings are acrylic paint on cotton canvas stretched over wooden frames. No external framing is needed as all sides are painted giving a three dimensional quality to the work.
Paintings on this website are for sale unless designated NFS.  Titles and size in inches found below each image.
